I just read a true story today on Facebook posted by my friend:

"Get a lost phone
look through the contacts
dial to the person with the name "Darling".

Me: Hey,I have got a lost phone here, I believed that it's belong to your gf, i get your contact by dialling "Darling" from the list, can you pls ask her to come and collect later?

Him: Sorry,actually we are just friends. I will tell her later. Big Thanks!

Hhmm..I can imagine the story behind =)

The guy will never know that the girl named him as "Darling",until today. The Valentine's Day."

Honestly, I cried reading this. Such a wonderful and bittersweet story. My friend who posted this told me the guy sounded excited after knowing that the girl named him as 'darling'. I sincerely hope both them to be together.

What if my friend didn't pick up the phone and call that guy? That guy might not know the girl's feeling forever and the secret remains as secret. Good things always happen in life, but sometimes we might be too busy amplifying our problems and miss most of them. In the end we complain we are not blessed enough, we are not lucky enough, we are not fortunate enough.

I hope people would appreciate good things around them, especially good people, don't start appreciating them when they leave you. Life is really too short for regrets.

Someone Just Did This to Me!!

Ann is a very good friend of mine, we could talk about almost anything under the sun. This afternoon she sent me a message asking me to check out her tumblr post at around 9pm today, and knowing that I love Totoro she dedicated a picture of Totoro to me!

Perseverance

I came across this story recently:

Nikolai Gogol, a Russian comic writer, was once asked by a friend how he managed to write everyday. He answered if he had nothing to write, he would write the sentence 'I don't know why I have nothing to write' over and over again until he could come up with ideas. Hence he always had something to write everyday without fail.

Imagine if it happens to other situation. Can someone just say 'I don't know why I have no enough money' repeatedly and some huge sum of money suddenly falls from the heaven? Can a girl just say 'I don't know why I am not pretty enough' repeatedly and she suddenly becomes like Angelina Jolie? Can an old man just say 'I don't know why I am not young anymore' repeatedly and he suddenly becomes 10 years younger?

There is no magic behind this sentence, but it is the attitude that does the miracle. If Gogol was writing those sentences repeatedly out of frustration and bitterness, he might not be able to come up with any idea and gave up in the end. I believe he was doing it knowing that inspiration would somehow come, he might as well fill his time by carrying out his daily routine, which was to keep on writing.

That is perseverance.

Lunch Yesterday

It was about 2.30pm when my brother and I reached KL yesterday. We took the train and stopped at KL Central, hence we decided to have our lunch there and then. After much wandering around we finally settled for Kenny Rogers.

That place was very quiet (only three customers including us). We ordered two dishes and shared a chocolate milkshake. Our food came first. The portion was miserably small (especially my brother's) and the food didn't look palatable. Anyway we endured and finished the food and waited for the drink. However it seemed to take centuries to reach us so I called the waiter and asked for the drink. Apparently the waiter didn't place the order and the workers just didn't make the drink (arrgghhh~). My brother and I made faces to each other but we didn't make a scene. Finally our chocolate milk shake came, as soon as my brother finished the last sip I quickly asked for the bill. Another lady (not the same waiter) came with bill and to my surprise, because of the delay in making the drink, they didn't charge us for that!

Even though I didn't really like the food and the place, the effort of making the compensation was something remarkable. I had experience 'fighting' with restaurant workers just to get discount for the bill because of the delayed service. In this case they did it without the customer asking for it. Of course I wasn't happy for the quality of the service, but I appreciate their effort trying to retain the 'offended' customer (I am not going to that place anymore though).

Having said so, being a highly imaginative person who likes reasoning nonsense, I suspected their kindness to us was greatly due to my brother's appearance (he was carrying his guitar and wearing a check shirt). Maybe they really thought my brother was a Youtube self-proclaimed guitarist or Akademi Fantasia Champion wannabe or something like that and that was why they treated us slightly better.

Haha, I know you might be thinking what kind of sister I am, but seriously if you see some guy with unusual outfit swaying around with a huge guitar like nobody's business, like this

Anyway, thanks to Kenny Rogers for that tasty chocolate milk shake that I bought with time, something is always better than nothing at all.

How do You Pronounce Them?

I came across a Youtube video about pronunciation of French brands. I thought of sharing the link here but I just couldn't because the url seems to lead to another funny video. Anyway it is really interesting to find out the 'real' pronunciation of the brands' names. Some of them are common, like Clarins and Garnier, but seriously I didn't know they were French until I watched the video. The correct pronunciation of the names is rather surprising.

Hopefully I would sound more 'impressive and knowledgeable' the next time I visit cosmetic store by pronouncing the French names correctly *wink*.

She has got two eggs now and this is her 2nd day hatching.

I am not too sure how long she needs to hatch, but I will wait, I am just so super excited because I want to see her babies!!

Many students benefited from the government's initiative under the 2012 budget by receiving the one-off payment of book voucher RM200. However there are students who sell them online with discount. Here is the news.

That reflects certain level of mentality of these students. First, they are 'business minded', but that also means that these students don't value book vouchers that much. RM200 can buy lots of books! Maybe they really need the money to buy them meals, maybe they really need that money to pay their rent, maybe with that money they could get a new iPhone, maybe they just don't need books, or maybe they just don't read.

I am baffled. I would not know the reason behind, but if I were to be one of them, I would go straight to the book store and get myself books. Perhaps I am not thinking out of the box. I should be 'smarter' and see it as a money-making opportunity, but if this is just for instant gratification, I doubt the selling of the voucher is a more intelligent way.

By the way, I heard that the government monthly allowance for OKU school children (my youngest brother is registered as OKU) was not given in November and December last year. I wonder where the money has gone, maybe to the RM260 million book vouchers, or some untraceable government projects (since the OKU school children can't vote, after all).

I am just saying.

Dan Sebenarnya

Well this is my first attempt to record my own voice singing while playing guitar. This song titled 'Dan Sebenarnya' is by Yuna. I fall in love (and am still greatly in love) with her voice right after I heard this song. Our own Malaysian talent, really proud of her! I won't say this is a cover of the song, because I only sang some parts of it (so 'half cover' should be more appropriate, hehe). I did it just for the fun of it, and also the fun of dreaming myself singing like Yuna...

Right...I am not quite a creative person so I just simply put my blog's picture as the background (running out of ideas and pictures)..

Love Languages

According to a marriage and relationship counselor Dr. Gary Chapman, there are 5 ways of expressing and receiving love, which he termed them as 'love languages'. Everyone has at least a primary love language, that means the person feels most loved while another person expresses love with his or her primary love language.

These 5 love languages are quality time, words of affirmation, gifts, acts of service and physical touch. All 5 of them are important, but to make a person feel genuinely loved, one must speak the person's primary love language. Take me for example, my primary love language is quality time, if I have two equally good gentlemen pursuing me, one always talks to me, brings me around and involves me in many activities, another one brings me flowers, buys me books I have always wanted and gives me handmade cards everyday. Who expresses love more effectively to me compared to another? Answer is the first one. However the situation might be different if my primary love language is receiving gifts.

It doesn't mean one must only speak the only primary love language of the loved one to show love, we need to express love in 5 ways, but to make our loved ones feel really loved, we must speak the person's primary love language.

I read the book 'The Five Love Languages' a while ago, but recently I came across this book 'The Five Love Languages for Singles' by Dr. Chapman at Carefour for only RM5! The first one is more for married couples while the latter is catered for single people.

This is a useful book to me, it helps in building meaningful relationships and the right way to enjoy them.

New Year Resolution # 1

1st New Year Resolution, I want to be PRETTIER!!!

BUT on the other hand, I don't want to be obsessed with cosmetic and clothes. So I have set some guidelines for myself:

1. Own only ONE lipstick and ONE lip gloss

Lipstick is the weapon of women. In the 1920's almost every woman in New York owned at least one tube symbolizing femininity and the women's increasing buying power. However many young girls nowadays don't use lipstick anymore and the substitute is lip gloss which many a time they own too many tubes of than they ever need.

The phrase 'a face without lipstick is a face without energy' is much debatable. I personally don't fancy using lipstick. However owning a good one comes very handy when I need to attend special function, conduct a presentation and for sudden photo-shooting.

However on the other hand I can't help myself checking out lip gloss whenever I spot appealing ones, but since the lifespan of a tube is only about 1 year. Hence the only lip gloss I have now is the versatile Benefit Ultra Shines Foxy Lady which goes well with most of my outfit and eye make-up.

2. Own TWO mascara

I had once owned 6 tubes of mascara! I could not finish them all of course and I ended up throwing them away. What a waste! Now I control my urge trying all the 'exciting' mascara and go for only good ones as my lashes are weak hence I need those that could hold the curls. So far one of the effective ones is Maybelline Volum' Extreme Turbo Boost Waterproof Mascara. Now another brand I could rely on is Kiss Me Heroine Make Mascara, thanks to Sze Sze's recommendation~ Ever since I started limiting myself, I could finish my mascara in about half a year (which is about its lifespan), safer.

3. Get more scarf

French ladies have the greatest collection of scarfs. Of course I don't aspire to wear heavy thick scarf like the French in such a hot humid climate, but I would really like to get more small scarf made of light material as accessory, then I could just go ahead getting tops with plain colour.

I have got a list of plans to make sure I am prettier in the end of 2012. Plans include sleeping latest at 11pm, eating more vegetables, doing mask at least once a week...

So my first resolution is to be prettier~ (vain~~)

I Need to Change

One of the things I did not manage to do in Christmas is to revamp my blog.

Looking back at the things I wrote, some are really mere meaningless grumblings while some are careful thoughts. However my blog does not seem to have a direction, I just write whatever I feel like writing.

Although I am not going to be professional blogger or anything close to that, I still think I need to have at least, a significant style, because what I wrote represents who I am.

I feel burdened to share about an encounter with a girl. This did not happen recently and I hesitated to write about it, but this has slowly become my concern.

She is a young lady with a class of her own, waist length hair, fair complexion, long slender legs, and she speaks with an insouciant and casual manner. She does not look like other young girls, she has that extra aura which draws people closer to her. She gave me a very positive first impression due to her uniquely attractive appearance.

However all good impression dissolved as soon as she started talking. It was an official occasion, she was at that time talking to two people and I was there to join them without participating in that conversation. She dominated the conversation, and she boasted about her visiting strip clubs in almost all the European countries.

I started thinking, what is that to boast about? Is frequenting strip clubs and having seen many strippers' groin something to be very proud of?

Another issue that concerns me is the values embraced by my generation. It is awesome to be a party animal, because that means you are wild and free; it is cool to swear and curse, because that means you dare to express your emotion...so everyone starts to get wild, lose control, get really wasted and lose consciousness...vision becomes blurry and conscience becomes weak...

Can we stop glorifying our shameful behaviour?

Passion VS Money

I am currently reading a book titled 'Talent is Never Enough' by John Maxwell. I read about this interesting survey cited in this book about the correlation between passion and income and want to share it here.

This is a study done on 1500 people over 20 years. The group of people was divided into 2 groups, being Group A which consisted of 83% of the sample, who were embarking on a career chosen for the prospects of making money now in order to do what they wanted later, and Group B which consisted of 17% of the sample, who on the other hand had chosen their career path for the reverse reason, they were going to pursue what they wanted to do now and worry about the money later.

And these were the findings:

at the end of 20 years, 101 of the 1500 had become millionaires
of the millionaires, all but one - 100 out of 101 - were from Group B, the group that had chosen to pursue what they loved

This is a powerful study. After reading this I am convinced to go all the way for my passion and the things I love instead of putting money as the first priority. I don't mean that we don't consider monetary in our decision making, but making it the sole and primary deciding factor might not bring one far.

Things that Brighten up Gloomy Day

There are always ups and downs in life. For instance the last weekends my mood was so deeply affected by a bad flu I had. However I have my own ways to combat this mood swings.

I love flowers, I like to put flowers in my room. This week I came across these beautiful flowers which I have no idea about the name of, I picked them up and put them in my room.

Usually I bought roses, and these three were the best roses I had.

Aren't they beautiful? Flowers are definitely made to brighten up our days.

Other than flowers, I found out that doing manicure is also a great way to make me happy. I did my nails and instantly I felt the satisfaction.

I always buff my fingernails with The Body Shop Nail Polishing Block.

Fantastic little tool which leave your fingernails clean and shinny. People always think I paint transparent coat on my nails after I buff them with this.

Then I would massage my hands with Crabtree and Evelyn Gardeners Hand Recovery.

Got this as a gift but it is so amazing that I will buy another one myself. After massaging it I always feel my hands are fairer and softer. I would always apply hand lotion after that.

After that all the procedures, I did something extra last week - I painted my nails! I am always so lazy to do them myself, but it is worth the effort.

PINK!! Ah, I feel so much girlish~ So good to be a girl....

Besides these, reading can do good to the emotion. Recently I came across this Chinese poem and it goes like this:

"依依脉脉两如何，细似轻丝渺似波。月不长圆花易落，一生惆怅为伊多。"

Like the last two verses the most which say 'things in nature don't last long, just like the moon it can't stay round for long, and the flowers wither easily, but my affection and emotions are lasting because of you.' (My translation doesn't sound beautiful, but in Chinese it sounds very romantic and soulful.)

The Quest for Qi Pao

Shopping for clothes is never easy, especially when it comes to Qi Pao. When people talk about Qi Pao, the usual first thing that comes into our minds would be, you must have nice body to wear that!!!! Like how Chinese says, 玲珑有致的身材...

I personally like Maggie Cheung in Qi Pao, especially the air of elegance and nonchalance, and the willowy figure. However I am blessed with height slightly below average, hence I would have to say goodbye to high Chinese collar and long Qi Pao, but I still believe having my own unique charm, I would still have a fair share of beauty by wearing the right Qi Pao.

Of course to look best in Qi Pao is to tailor one, but it will be very time consuming and costly. Hence the next alternative is to shop for one. Last weeked I started my quest with full enthusiasm, then I went to this shop in Central Market and tried a few...

And finally I decided to take this final piece I tried, first is because of the price (the cheapest), second is because when I wore this out, another customer who was there choosing Qi Pao saw and instantly wanted to try the one I was wearing, in different colour.

So this was how I looked in my company's annual dinner yesterday night. I really love how I looked, thanks to the help of the makeup artist and hair stylist!

Money Matters

The Star yesterday's headline : We overspend.

Many Malaysians are found living beyond their means. More daunting discovery, many of those declared bankrupt due to credit card debts were below 40 years old.

I meet many different kinds of people because of my work, especially young people applying for jobs. 2 days ago I came across this young girl with heavy makeup (false eyelashes, inches of foundation and thick eyeliner), funky outfit and branded handbag coming to my office for an interview. I was not the one attending to her, but because her look caught my attention and interest, I asked my colleague who handled the interview about her. The comments given were: a girl from well-to-do family graduating from foreign private college, does not have much enthusiasm and need for work, cares only about money, looks like she always spends thousands every month on her make-ups and bags.

Many young people nowadays are so blessed materialistically. I have friends my age getting luxurious cars and big houses from their parents. I am not blessed with that. I had to go through tough STPM that caused me losing 10kg in 2 weeks (stress works!!) to get into local university because my mum told me she did not have money for me for my studies. My tuition fees were covered by the company I am now working with. I feel extremely offended when people doubt the degree I earned, I got it with sweat, tears and fear. I feel extremely annoyed when people tell me that the company was not giving me enough for my scholarship (local university's fee is low), but if it was not this company, I would have more difficult time surviving in the campus. For all you know, my parents did not spend a single cent for my tuition and hostel fees.

The journey of life so far has taught me something valuable - appreciation. I appreciate the job and the pay given to me. I can never imagine spending money on unnecessary stuff. Of course I don't mean not to spend at all, I reward myself with quality goods, but the important logic is to spend like how I earn.

Many young people of my generation have better life. I would not say what happened to me was pitiful, but I was restricted from certain options due to finance, which some people of my age may not need to go through. Many don't seem to appreciate that much of what they have because of the abundance of material they enjoy. Of course they want more money because they have got an expensive lifestyle to maintain. Travelling, partying, shopping. So think, is cost of living really that high that we have to spend beyond our means?

Many young people don't believe in hard work anymore. They see how hard their parents work for money and they don't want to be like them. Furthermore having books like rich dad poor dad causes the awareness of passive income and proper investment, many young people want to get rich really fast and stop working really early. I always think long term financial planning is extremely important, but I oppose the idea of 'exceptionally early retirement'. I have heard a young lady telling me that she wanted to retire from work at the age of 30. Ridiculous, that is the golden age for a person to contribute the most to the workforce and the country's economy!! To me that is just mere selfishness, nothing to do with good financial planning.

What lacking in the young generation I could see are two elements, appreciation and willingness to contribute to the workforce. That is why wastage, overspending, resource depletion happen to our society. We live in a land blessed with ample resources and a generation blessed with fortune and peace, but don't ever turn the blessing into curse.

Perception of Others

I met my senior 2 days ago and as usual we talked about people we knew. He mentioned my former roommate and said that she is that kind of girl everyone would love to be with but does not have the courage to pursue, because of her elegance, class and of course her standards. Whoever got her would be someone of that class and standard. On the other hand he mentioned another girl whom many guys would probably pursue, because she is 'very easy to get'.

I could not agree more with him. If you know my former roommate you would know what I mean. She is such a lovely girl who cannot step out of the room without a nice pair of earrings. She appreciates literature and language. She speaks prefect English and always attempts to improve her Mandarin. She loves pastel colours. She loves God. Whereas the other girl is the opposite. She dresses up very well, but too often showing off her body figure too much. She behaves differently depending on she is with guys or girls. As a girl, I don't like her, at all.

How we carry ourselves sets how we want other to perceive us. That consists of the clothes we wear, the way we walk and talk, the content of our conversation with others. Nowadays we are bombarded with the behaviours of certain celebrities such as party animals, sleeping around (the more the merrier), exposed private parts, vulgar language (did I tell that I really can't stand that F word? not only it is vulgar, it is too much overused!!) so on and so forth. Sometimes we are so caught in the grey area. Maybe things are not that serious, come on we don't do things they do, but indirectly we are influenced by the culture. For example, the overused words. F and S are the most common 'cliche', people are using them without thinking about their original definition. Two other very common ones are 'like' and 'OMG'. Try making a sentence using this two words, it will turn out to be 'I was like OMG~'.

Perhaps you might think that is very western, how about an Asian example. I found many girls strive to speak in a childlike tone ('manja' is a more suitable word to describe), especially when that person is a guy. If you pay a little bit more attention to it, you will find the similarities between these girls and those girls in the Taiwanese variety show. It is not wrong to have a high pitch and childlike tone, some people have it naturally, but to fake it out, I don't think that works. Of course another extreme example is the 'ME' album in Facebook with full of pictures taken from high angle, usually the emphasis is on the eyes and sometimes you might see different hand signals. (the infamous 1 to 5 fingering technique, remember?). Now we have got another popular album, the party and clubbing pictures which show all the bottles and smoke. I am just saying if the boss is one of their friends, how would the boss think (since people don't really remember who are in their friend list)?

Some people might say, who are you to judge? I am just being my true self. Of course I am nobody to judge, but everyone of us has something called self-control. We can choose what kind of true self we want to be, we can choose what we want others to perceive us as. How much respect we have for ourselves, it shows from how well we carry ourselves.

Smurf-effect

Just watched Smurf last week, at first didn't really want to watch because it was not my favourite childhood cartoon (I am more of a Baja Hitam fan, hehe). However after watching it, I WAS TOTALLY SMURF'ED!!!

Yesterday I had McD's for lunch, I purposely ordered Happy Meal just to get the Smurf toy. (ooo I didn't believe I actually did that!!!) I wanted Smurfette but because she was too popular I had to settle for Gusty Smurf. Anyway that Scottish chap is cute too with the sideburns and the kilt.

Then I went to Pavilion and saw these Smurfs walking around. My friend kept pushing me to take picture with them knowing I like them so much. So again I did something that I cannot believe I did, just because of Smurfs~~

I felt so much like a small kid seeing them. Some people say there is a child in everyone's heart, that child is the innocent side of everyone. That is why cartoons can easily touch people's heart.

Small Delightful Things

This afternoon before going to church I thought of putting on something different and finally decided to pin my hair with a flower clip:

I didn't expect it to turn out so gorgeously on my hair, it made me look sweet and demure (didn't it? haha...).

I really like being a girl. I like flowers and flower prints. I like ribbon and lace. I like heels. I like dresses. I like rose scented lotion. I like being loved and being pampered.

Thank the Lord for making me such a girl and for giving me the eyes to appreciate all these little things that make me prettier and happier.

Finally I have a break!!

I have been looking forward to this Raya break for a long time. I just felt everything was too overwhelming, I could not even find a second to take a longer breath (from my previous posts it is not difficult to sense that negative feeling). Now I feel so much more relaxed. Waking up in the cooling breeze and clean air of Ipoh is such a wonderful blessing, hallelujah!

There are a few things in my must-do-list for the break:

1. take nap EVERYDAY

2. watch 三国 (95 episodes man!!! I will try my best to watch as many as I can)

3. download songs (I just discover an awesome guitarist in Youtube, search Frédéric Mesnier and get ready to be addicted)

4. bake

5. pray and ponder upon the Word (yes I do this everyday but I am going to do MORE)

6. read

7. last but not least, blog

Ah, I love holiday at home~

I read this from here and thought of sharing it:

"Bruce Wilkinson tells about a fable about a Mr. Jones who dies and goes to heaven,

Peter is waiting at the gates to give him a tour. Amid the splendor of golden streets, beautiful mansions, and choirs of angels that Peter shows him, Mr. Jones notices an odd-looking building. He thinks it looks like an enormous warehouse -- it has no windows and only one door. But when he asks to see inside, Peter hesitates. "You really don't want to see what's in there," he tells the new arrival.
Why would there be any secrets in heaven? Jones wonders. What incredible surprise could be waiting for me in there? When the official tour is over he's still wondering, so he asks again to see inside the structure.
Finally Peter relents. When the apostle opens the door, Mr. Jones almost knocks him over in his haste to enter. It turns out that the enormous building is filled with row after row of shelves, floor to ceiling, each stacked neatly with white boxes ties in red ribbons.
"These boxes all have names on them," Mr. Jones muses along. Then turning to Peter he asks, "Do I have one?"
"Yes, you do," Peter tries to guide Mr. Jones back outside. "Frankly," Peter says, "if I were you . . ." But Mr. Jones is already dashing toward the "J" aisle to find his box.
Peter follows, shaking his head. He catches up with Mr. Jones just as he is slipping the red ribbon off his box and popping the lid. Looking inside, Jones has a moment of instant recognition, and he lets out a deep sigh like the ones Peter has heard so many times before.

Survivor

I have a fish in my office. I like this fish very much. He is the only one fish I am having.

I have a name for him, I call him 'Survivor', because it is not easy to survive under such a 'good' master like me. I used to have many more, but the rest died, I don't add more fish after that, that is why I only have Survivor.

He is very strong. He survived 3 days without food (because the master forgot to feed him). He survived a big fight with another fish. He almost died after the fight as he was injured. He was swimming so slowly as if he was going to die the next second. I prayed so hard for him, I prayed for miracle. The next morning, he was back to his normal self. He was as vigorous as usual.

There is one thing lacking, Survivor is all alone. Whenever my colleague sees him, she always urges me to get him one female fish. I didn't think much about it. I thought he was happy having me, he was happy having such a big space to himself. Until recently I found him really lonely, I decided to try looking for one for him. I went to the pet shop but saw none of the female fish was pretty enough for my Survivor. So I ended up with empty hands.

Today is a Friday, but I was not happy just now. Out of sudden I felt deep sense of loneliness and frustration. I was asking God what sin I have done that everything seemed so unbearable with that loneliness. No one seemed to understand how bad I felt. I even had people condemning me for feeling terrible! (@#$&%$!!!!)

Suddenly I think of Survivor. Isn't his situation similar to mine? Is he also waiting for me to get him a companion? Can I ignore his need just because I am not a fish myself or just because he didn't request from me? Why did I always delay buying another fish?

After much consideration, I have decided to get him a companion on Monday. I don't want to treat him the way I don't want my Master to treat me.

p.s. I finally got my Survivor a female fish, he looks really happy with her. *smile* (22 August 2011)

Luxury

Staying home with a nice piece of music which complements the sizzling rain is a luxury.
Gazing at the sky full of stars with someone you love is a luxury.
Reading a good book and having a good cry after that is a luxury.
Receiving a big bear hug is a luxury.

So simple, yet to hard to attain.

That's why they are the real luxuries.

Back to Short Hair

I always admire girls with long wavy volume hair, because they look so sexy and carefree.

I also like curls and girls with curls look sophisticated and elegant.

I am having the opposite, no curls no volume no wave, but straight fine soft hair.

I should be thankful because my hair is very easy to manage. My hair always looks neat and tidy because it is very very straight, as if it is straightened after rebonding. I don't even need to comb my hair in the morning, I just need to run my fingers through it once and it will be as tidy as ever. BUT it looks awfully boring.

Since I am still not prepared to force my hair into curls or wave by perming it, I have decided to cut it short again.

If life is a race

Just met up with some university friends, now the topics we talked about were no longer assignments and college activities, but about work, getting married and buying property.

I felt very much out of place at first. I am not in any relationship with a guy that leads to marriage, I don't have enough money to buy property, and the only thing I could talk more is about work. If life was a race, everyone ran so far ahead of me, I was way too SLOW.

Suddenly a verse came struck my mind, it is Ecclesiastes 9: 11 which says: " I have observed something else under the sun. The fastest runner doesn't always win the race, and the strongest warrior doesn't always win the battle. The wise sometimes go hungry, and the skillful are not necessarily wealthy. And those who are educated don't always lead successful lives. It is all decided by chance, by being in the right place at the right time."

It is not the faster the better, but it is the more God is involved the better. God makes everything beautiful in His time. Having a family and accumulating wealth are important, however I am not going to let the worry of not having all these hinder me from praising His name.

Life is never a race, but a journey to another destination. There are better walks of life for me.

I used to think how good if there is a guy who would do anything to win my heart, but after a few incidents, I came to realize that effort does not all the time win someone's love. Of course to an extend it contributes, certainly it is not the sole deciding factor.

However I am still waiting for the special someone who would write me a song to express his affection to me, like the guy who wrote 'Flower of Sweet Strabane' to Martha.

Self-esteem

Spoke to a friend and she revealed to me she had very low self-esteem especially about her looks. I was shocked because she always looked stunning and gorgeous, however I believed that what she told me was true from her heart.

Many girls suffer from low self-esteem. Even though now women have more rights and it is not surprising to see more women than men in the corporate world, the deep sense of inferiority is still there. It could be the expectation towards how women should behave and look like, and we always feel that we are so far away from the 'ideal'. I still remember watching a movie about King Henry VIII and there was a scene that he asked his fifth wive Kathryn Howard what her hobbies were, she looked at him with her innocent eyes and said playing cards and praying, after hearing that he was very pleased, but little did he know the flirtatious queen was cheating behind him with many handsome and younger guys.

I had very low self-esteem. I used to think that I looked ugly, I was not curvy enough, I was not smart and the list went on and on. I could still recall when I was in secondary school during the girl guide and boy scout joint gathering, girls were asked by the boys to dance, I was never one of them. I could only watch each of them leaving their seats with their partners and hope that, someone special, perhaps the most handsome of all who appreciated beauty of the heart more than a mere pretty face, would come to me, but it never happened.

As I grow older, I slowly build my confidence bit by bit, however sometimes it is still shattered into pieces by hurtful memories and troubling thoughts. The same old fears surface, the fear of being singled out, the fear of loneliness, the fear of sweet dreams that never come true. Some people might look at me and say, hey you look alright, you are still young, you know how foolish you are to think like that, you know how many people are worse than you. Most of the time all these are just nonsense to me, they are not relevant to me because I would think no human knows me better than myself and they have never gone through the experience I have.

We have issues with self-esteem, so when a girl comes and tells you she feels bad about her looks and body, please don't deny her worries, reassure her that she is pretty and she has qualities that others don't possess. We as girls who suffer from constant low self-esteem must always remind ourselves, when God made us He thought that we were good, gently let go those bad feelings and look at ourselves in the mirror through God's eyes, you realize that you are so much more beautiful than you think you are.

The man

He always corrects my pronunciation. There was once when I pronounced 'chrysanthemum' as 'cry-san-te-mum', he shouted at me, 'ooooiii, finished studying degree still don't know how to pronounce properly ah?!'

He has certain expectation that I could never fulfill. When I got band 5 for MUET, others congratulated me, but he asked, 'why not band 6?'

He likes to question, and every question starts with 'Have you this or that...?'. Sometimes I was questioned to the extend that I did not know how to answer.

Exactly, that is the man whom I call 'Pa'.

I have a 'dream daddy' since young. My 'dream daddy' is kind and soft spoken. He always plays and spends time with the children. He is definitely not fierce. He always tells the children stories.

The man I call 'Pa' is the total opposite. He is the typical traditional Chinese father, even though he was from English school and has little knowledge of Chinese tradition. He is strict. Our conversation is merely Q&A, no sharing of opinion or feeling. He is domineering, when he says 'A', you cannot argue that is "B". Well of course at times he would still be convinced, but he would never let you know that he changes his decision just because your idea is better than his.

BUT I know my father has a soft heart, despite his tough and stern look. I still remember he called me on the first night in National Service and he told me not to worry but to enjoy (which I really did in the end), my eyes were filled with tears when I heard his voice over the phone. Seriously if not my father, I would not have applied the scholarship and got it. Until now even though he likes to nag me to do this and that, without him, I am not where I am now. He recommends me books to read. Even though he commented that the books I read were simple and shallow, he bought me 'P.S. I love you' (which I thought was not that profound) and kept reminding me to bring back to KL.

Father is truly the reflection of our Heavenly Father. He disciplines, he leads, he provides, he inspires, he protects, and most importantly, he loves. I pray that God will always be by my father's side and bless him with strength and wisdom to continue being an awesome father as he already is. This is my sincere prayer that every father or future father whom I know would demonstrate the qualities of our Heavenly Father.

A Bizarre Story

I must tell this story I heard yesterday from the church:

There was a kind hearted Christian guy who volunteered in the old folks home. He was in charge of taking care of three old men, who were always complaining and grumpy. They loved to complain about anything under the sun, from the weather to not being loved. This guy was patient enough to still comfort them and continue staying at the old folks home.

Everyone has bad days, and that day happened to be his. When the three old men started complaining as usual, he was so agitated and he shouted to all three of them, "In Jesus' name, SHUT UP!" All three of them stopped complaining instantly.

Something bizarre happened, all three old men died within the following 24 hours.

This guy was shocked, even though it was not him who killed them, he felt he "contributed" to it. So he asked a pastor about it, and the pastor told him it was because these three men were so filled with the spirit of complaining, when he casted out the spirit from them, they were actually empty. Hence there was nothing else in their bodies, that was why they died after that.

Emotions are powerful. If we do not know how to control them, we will be filled with them, and lose ourselves.

Stop complaining, stop complaining, stop complaining.

Dreamer

If you watched Digimon 3 you would know there is this theme song that starts like this "Wanna be the biggest dreamer..." Believe it or not, this line still sticks in my mind until now since I first heard it 8 years ago.

Nowadays we are bombarded by so many self-help materials that persuade us to dream boldly, they even go to the extend to provide proper steps to dream "correctly" so that we could make our dreams come true, and positive thinking always comes into the picture.

I would have to admit that I am a great believer in positive thinking and dreaming. I always think not having a dream is extremely sad. I have crazy dreams since young. I dreamed of marrying a handsome and rich prince, I dreamed of having the special ability to talk to the animals, I dreamed of building a castle, I dreamed of staying in a room full of balloons and sweets and chocolates. Little did I know all these dreams were the products of Disney cartoons.

Disney itself was a dream come true. However being a dreamer alone doesn't bring it to success. The article The Wonder World of Disney which was published on The Star yesterday revealed Walt Disney's secret of the three chairs: the dreamer, the realist and the spoiler. The dreamer is to dream the wildest and craziest ideas, the realist is to define practical plans, and the spoiler is to question and identify potential problems. Walt Disney's success was not just because he dared to dream, but he dared to take different perspective towards his vision, even to criticize it himself.

Another interesting research quoted in Richard Wiseman's 59 seconds (I am still reading it, haven't finished reading yet) shows that actually positive thinking doesn't work! It helps in making people feeling better, but not achieving goals. Instead, doublethink is the key, which is basically the state of mind involving people being optimistic about achieving their goals but also realistic about problems they may encounter.

God made us two sides of brain, the right brain is for us to dream （梦）, the left brain is for us to think（想）, that is why in Chinese ambition is dream and thought (梦想). Be ambitious and courageous to dream, to plan, to act and last but not least, to pray in the name of the Lord.

Settled one goal of the year, I still have got 3 more goals for 2011 to achieve.

One is in the progress, the second one is stagnant but nevermind I will wait for the right time, the third one would have to wait for year end.

Now is already June, half a year gone, I am praying hard to have God in my plans and goals for this year.

Gambateh Yeoh Zu Dian!!

Food lover

I have never been a food lover.

The heaviest weight I had was only 48kg, but being only 153cm tall, I looked really bloated. Since then I changed my eating habit and now I cannot eat much, and the most drastic change is, I do not love food as much as how I used to.

However the paradox is, I am surrounded by food lovers. Some are so amazing that they could remember the food they took, even the dish they took 5 10 years ago. I can't even remember what I ate for lunch this afternoon. I am kind of fortunate to have these food lovers to bring me around for food, but in the end when they ask how the food is, "hmm, ok loh, not bad ah," that is my usual answer.

I know this is really really bad, it is just like how when I recommend a book to someone and the person answers me in a very indifferent manner. But I just don't have the passion for food like many do. I think it is because I don't like taking oily and fried food, that limits my choice to only a few.

One of the toughest questions to me is : "What do you want to eat?"

And my answer would always be the one I hate the most: "I don't know.", or even worse : "Whatever."

Sarcastic ones would say, "I never heard of a restaurant by the name of 'I don't know' or 'whatever'." More understanding ones would give me two options and force me to choose either one, the rest would just give up asking and make the decision themselves.

I have terrible memory for food. Some to me taste the same no matter how it is raved. But don't get me wrong, I won't say 'no' to food, it is just that I enjoy the conversation while having meals more than I enjoy the food itself. So take me out for good food, but please don't look at me strangely when I say "I don't know what I want to eat..."...

Having the end in mind

Have you ever wondered how people will talk about you when you are no longer in the world?

Even though I don't share with people, I constantly have this kind of thought whenever I read about someone's life, especially those in wikipedia, because they are concentrated and basically have summarized the person's life into one short web page.

Recently I read a book by Richard Wiseman titled 59 seconds, he wrote about the benefit of writing your own eulogy as a way to put the end of your life in mind so that you know what kind of life in the end of day you would want to have.

We don't often have eulogy presented during the usual Chinese funeral. The last eulogy I heard was from a Christian funeral, and I thought it was meaningful to announce to everyone who was present about the life of the deceased and how the person would be remembered.

I did a bit of google and found that writing your own eulogy is a psychological exercise. It may sound like a taboo in our Asian culture, but I truly believe that this would definitely help to see life from a different perspective and to acknowledge our mortality.

1. Birth and childhood, keep this brief

2. College and career, include any accomplishments you made

3. Family and relationships

4. Hobbies and interests

Imagine that you lived until 90 years old and you passed away, picture how you lived in the 9 decades and write a script for your friend to be presented in your funeral.

So I wrote myself a brief one (I skip a few points though):

"If you know Zu Dian very well, you would agree with me that she is one of the most blessed people you know. She seemed to do well in everything, her career, her personal life and even her life after retirement. But if you know her even better, you would know all these did not come easy for her.

She always quoted from the book The Road Less Travelled: 'Life is a series of problems, yet it is in this whole process of meeting and solving problems that life has its meaning.' To her, problems are to be overcome, problems are ways from God to show His grace and mercy. Her success originated from problems. She wanted me to tell everyone here should you now face any form of problem in life, remember God will not forsake you, do not be anxious about anything, but commit to God whatever you do, and your plans will succeed (Proverbs 6 : 3)

She was blessed with an awesome husband and amazing children. Her family is what I would call a 'role model' family. I believe her children would agree with me that her mother was a supportive mother despite her being a busy person until her last breath and their mother contributed a lot towards their success. Oh dear, you kids are lucky to have her.

She had a wide scope of interest, from doodling to books to music to dancing. However she admitted that she liked talking the most. You may find her not to be an overly talkative person, but you can't deny that she always had a way to sustain a meaningful conversation. Besides she had a hobby that not many know, she loved writing notes and letters, this was what she told me even though I had not received any note from her. Guess if we were to be in a different era, everyone of you would receive million of notes from her instead of electronic messages.

She was definitely a special lady I have ever known. She always seemed to have great energy towards life. She was generous to others, no matter in the form of material or in the form of encouragement, you could count on her. The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 9: 11 'You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God'. She was certainly a giver who showed how abundant blessings she received from the heaven above, and yet she boasted about nothing but God. She would always be cheering for you and begging you not to give up, that is why we love her so much. She loved people around her, she loved her husband, her children and her grandchildren, she loved her family especially her youngest brother, above all, she loved God.

I would describe her as the Wife of Noble Character depicted in the last chapter of Proverbs. I lost a friend physically but I always have her in my heart, and I know she doesn't want us to feel sad for that because we will definitely meet again in a better place. If I have a daughter, I would like her to be just like my dear friend."

It feels weird to describe yourself from another party's point of view, but this is basically what I want people to remember me for, an outstanding ordinary servant of God.

Just now I was on msn with a friend and I asked her about something she wrote as her personal message which was in Chinese, she was shocked that I could understand what she wrote.

I always think I am quite a typical Malaysian Chinese Chinese, but there are some people who think that I am a 'westernized' one. They think I only read English books and listen to English songs because I don't understand Chinese. Although I am always happy to have people thinking that I am a non-Chinese educated Chinese (because that would mean my English still cukup makan), it is sometimes frustrating to have to handle people who question the standard of my Chinese.

These are some of the FAQs:

1. Why do you sound strange when you speak in Mandarin?

I really would like to beg to differ, I speak Mandarin since the age of five and I use Mandarin everyday, why would my Mandarin sound strange? The only reason I could think of is because I am not fluent in speaking other dialects (my Cantonese and Hokkien are always out of tune), hence I don't develop that common accent many Malaysian Chinese speaking people have.

2. Why do you sound weird when you sing Mandarin songs?

I agree to this statement. I don't know why but I do sound weird when I sing Mandarin songs. I could not pronounce certain words especially words end with 'ie' or 'ian'. *aiks*

3. Do you know Chinese?

I know. I am from Chinese school so I went through formal Chinese classes for 13 years.

I even have got people challenging me to pronounce certain common Chinese characters thinking that I could not read Chinese at all. I really look that 'cha' meh??? I love this language so much that I always wish my future husband knows Chinese (a bit also doesn't matter, as long as can understand simple Chinese, my requirement is not high~) and my children would be sent to Chinese schools.

Normal and Abnormal

Many would have read or heard about the recent bully case that was posted in the Facebook and Youtube. I was a little bit taken aback when I knew that the victim is mentally challenged and this was not the first time she was bullied. Her parents launched complaints to the school, but the school suggested the parents to transfer the girl to another school since she is a special child.

I was really sad hearing this, because that was what happened to Seng Jae. He was not bullied like the girl, but he was once asked to get a transfer to another school because of his special condition.

Because of having a special child as my brother, I am exposed to a lot of issues that normal families don't face. I realized the world is a world of majority. Majority is normal. Majority is superior. Well minority, they do not actually create any impact so, we can just ignore them, or even write them off.

I sometimes think if the world is made of people like Seng Jae, I would be abnormal in their world, I would be mentally challenged in their eyes. Hence I don't find any importance to categorize people as normal or abnormal anymore, it is just the matter of perspective.

Don't these people talk about donation and charity when they don't even have the heart to accommodate people with special needs around them.

It was quite some time ago that I attended an advertisement writing training, we were required to write a recruitment advertisement in one of the sessions, and the position to recruit was: SPOUSE

My team and I were cracking our head to come up with an impressive advertisement so that it attracted the right people...well you know, you would not want any 'wrong' people to apply for such an important position, rejecting them would already be a mere waste of time. So after writing the advert, we were asked to rate every advert that was targeted to us. My group being the youngest and unmarried female group received quite a few adverts. None but ONE had successfully seized our hearts (well maybe it was only mine), which sounded like this:

Wouldn't your heart be melted by a guy like that? Sounded a little bit too good to be true, but we rated them very high and finally found out that it was from a group of middle-aged men. We had a real good laugh, but I like the advert so much that I am still keeping it.

What makes it so successful? I would think the reason is that it is emotionally engaging. It doesn't only brag about what these guys have (good qualities and personalities), but also the ability to fulfill emotional needs ('safely & securely...supporting you always').

Emotion is very powerful. I often find once you could engage a person emotionally, you could build a person easily. On the other hand, you could also break a person.

So how would your advertisement look like?

Valentine's day

Today is the day when you have extra lovey dovey couples walking around showing off their happiness, extra expensive roses and chocolates and teddy bears, secret-admirer pranks, and of course crowds. All the above do not affect me much, except for one, the facebook.

People, especially girls who receive gifts from their suitors or boyfriends, grab the opportunity to post their pictures of the gifts, with an extremely boastful caption: love you forever darling *muackss*~ well worse, some would even write a long winded note telling people how her boy (usually girls, so I use 'her') treats her so well, so tenderly, so lovingly...please keep that for your own use, the public is not very interested in you unless your name happens to be Kate Middleton.

On the other hand, people, especially girls again (not that I am anything against girls, I am a girl myself), single and very available, just like me, and waiting anxiously for their knight in the shining armor, take the opportunity to whine about how pitiful and lonely being singles, don't believe me? Check your facebook and I am very certain you will see 'sighzzz, another lonely valentine's day', 'having valentine's dinner alone...*sob*' so on and so forth.

Come on, it is absolutely cool to be single ok??? We are not valued by whether we are taken or we are dating!!! Well I don't think I am any less attractive than a girl who has a loving boyfriend, or my life is less interesting than a girl who has hot date.

I totally understand how bitterness and loneliness creep in from every single corner especially when you are surrounded by couples and you are all ALONE. My friend even advised me not to go anywhere tonight or else I will feel the love which does not belong to me. I take the advise and spend a great time with myself and God thinking all the blessings from God and thanking God, I am tired of playing victim and I am going to put a stop to bitterness.

To the couples, enjoy the day, it is all yours. May you stay happy and sweet forever, not only today. May your relationship grow stronger everyday. Do spent some time to remember single friends around you, pray for them that they enjoy the day as much as you do.

To the singles, enjoy the day, it is all yours! Do anything to show love to people around you and to yourself, you deserve more than staring at couples hand-in-hand and being beaten so badly by loneliness. If you are not looking for a partner, I am sure today is a great day to chill out after a long day of work or studies (tomorrow is a HOLIDAY, we love holidays don't we). If you are looking for a partner, today is the best day to list your criteria you want in your partner, and share the list with God, seek His guidance, pray about it, and of course ask Him to make you a mature man or women who is after His heart before committing into a relationship. (that is what I did)

God is great. He puts me through challenges and pain to make me tough, and most importantly, to let go the burden and to cast it upon Him.

He puts me in a situation where things seem to be so hopeless and damaged, that I can't do anything but to surrender it to Him, completely.

I know this is not to surrender to the adversity, but to the Lord.

I know this does not mean I am weak or I can't handle it myself, but it means I have an almighty God who takes care of every single thing of me including the most messed up and broken part of my life.

I know I can safely sleep in the boat in the furious tempest, because He will rebuke the wind and waves and there will be peace.

I realized why I had to go through the pain...

'I know this year will be a great year.' I told almost everybody before 2011 comes, but I did not expect life would welcome me to the new year in that manner...

The mixture of feelings that I experience on the first few days of 2011 is extremely intense...sweet, sour, bitter...but most of all, I am feeling totally confused...and it is the worst feeling that one could ever get...

I keep telling myself that the issue is not that big to affect me, I deny the existence of the problem, I ignore the problem which is slowly eating my heart bit by bit...

I am not sure how much emotion I have to control before it erupts...but I will not falter, I will not give up either...I will keep believing, I will keep praying...

I might not look too well these few days, but I will persevere, and I will be fine soon...

With that, let me wish all of you a wonderful year 2011, as I always believe it is...

I told my colleague who sat next to me that I felt like dying, she stared at me blankly and said in a slow and flat tone: "You feel like dying? This is rare."

At that very moment when I told her my feelings, even though I was smiling happily, I was in a massive mess.

I can't help but to feel extremely depressed this recently. I feel my heart is eaten up by worries, uncertainties, confusion and greatest of all, fear. I am drained and wounded. I try replenishing and healing myself with lots of positive thoughts, with lots of talking to friends and with lots of music. Unfortunately none of them could completely ease my pain.

I could not fix the problem. I could not even figure out the cause. How ridiculously and miserably I got myself trapped in such situation. While I was walking to the place I stay today, I suddenly laughed, but I could feel the tears running down my cheeks. I am such a big fool...

Down, down, down. Would the fall never come to an end? I am now falling into a rabbit-hole not knowing when I will hit the bottom. I stretch my arms hoping someone would give me a hand, but I could only grasp the air. Helplessly I keep falling.

Suddenly I realize I could do nothing but pray. I am entirely clueless of what the next step is, I could only rely on His plan. I have taken every possible action to make it happen and it does not till now, I could only cry to Him.

Jesus said, "apart from me you can do nothing." I am going to run back to His refuge and demand for His mercy and love. That is the only thing I can do, and little did I know that is the best thing I can do.

I think it is my moral responsibility to give an update on my birthday.

My birthday was fabulous having surprises from my lovely ex-roommates, dinners with family and housemates (and 'extended' housemates), 'the 5 love languages', wishes, sms, facebook wall posts from friends...hahaha, there are so many people who still remember my birthday.

To be frank, I have never in my life looked forward to my birthday. To me, it is just another day, or to another extend, it signifies the pain my mum went through while delivering me (which according to her was less painful than what she expected, haha). So I think it is supposed to be my mum's big day, not mine.

As I mentioned I did not believe in birthday wishes. I used to just wish for the impossibles and end every wish with the thought 'anyway it will not happen'. BUT from that day onwards, I start to believe in the impossibles and undeserved blessings.

I will look forward to the rest of my days being a 24 year old. More good things are happening.

I wanted to post about this long time ago, but I was hesitating, mostly because I think it is too personal and it might attract some unwanted attention...until I read Sze's blog, I thought I want to do the same thing...

I never talk about my 'love life' because there is nothing to talk about, people my age some have experienced so much, some have little, me, none.

And this is definitely NOT something that people will be proud of...it sounds like, that's really huge problem with me that nobody wants to even come a little bit closer to me!!!

And the sad thing is, I DON'T SEE ANY PROBLEM WITH ME!

I look at myself in the mirror, I always think that I am pretty (haha, don't laugh!!!)

well at least, decent-looking (pretend to be humble)...even though I am not fair, I have healthy balanced skin tone...and I always thank my mum for my black shinny hair...I like the shape of my face and my nose...I am now starting to like my body (it happened this recently), I think I look fine in most of the outfits (thank God for my super 'versatile' size)...

Inside me, I am a warm person and I care a lot for people.

I always ask myself, if I were a guy, would I like to date myself? Would I like myself to be my girlfriend?

And without even blinking I would say YES!

Hence my birthday wish for this year is to celebrate with the guy from God who thinks like me (saying YES without a blink) and cherishes me more than I do to myself and ultimately changes my 'status'...

I have not been making serious birthday wishes ever since I stopped believing in the happily-ever-after story anymore, I wished just for the sake of cutting the birthday cake more meaningfully...but when I got back home I saw my parents, they were as usual talking about a lot of things, like what to eat for dinner, the plan for my youngest brother, issues in the country, their headmasters, which raya open house to visit, and suddenly the thought struck my mind-- I want to be like them, facing happiness and worries of life together, and I want to look for the person who is willing to share the memories with me...

Two are better than one.

So I am serious this round...

I am really afraid of being lonely, but I always have to face it

It has been all the while my companion ever since I started to feel lonely

I make myself busy, I keep myself occupied

and people always think that I have a lot of friends

but in fact, there are only a handful of them I really treat like friends

I called them, and they told me they were busy

I sms them, there came short replies that left me no space to sms further

I msn them, the status was set as away or the replies showed no interest to continue the conversation

I took the initiative to contact them, and then?

only loneliness stays with me...

convenience always leads to abuse. I am found everywhere, I am always available, so they think they could leave me aside, they could attend to me later

they would say: no don't think that you are not important, you are 'one' of my best friends

but inside them, they know who always comes first, and who last...of course they must give priority to their family, work, boyfriend or girlfriend, future or even problems...

anymore rooms to accommodate me??

Message left in Macau

I always thought Macau was a place full with nothing but gamblers and portugese tarts, walking on the streets in Largo de Senado, however was a total different experience from what I could imagine, especially at night. I could see heritage with a lot of shops along the streets, I could feel the breeze gentlly patting my face. Suddenly I noticed a small book store at the second storey of the shoplots, my mum and I decided to go into the book store to have a look.

The name of the book store itself was already unique, it was called 'Pin-To book store' (Pin - to in Cantonese means 'where'). Going into the book store was like entering an entire different world. It looked like a small study room rather than a book store as not many books are being displayed. There was a big couch with a lot of soft toys on it at the center of the store. Soothing music was played at all time. The most interesting thing was the autograph book for the visitors on the tea table. I thought of getting some books but did not in the end. Hence my mum and I left in a short while.

That was the final night at Macau, while I was packing my mum suddenly told me that she had actually written something in the book when we were in the book store. "I wrote there: 'If we could rewind the time to 25 years ago, I would want to come to this country with my boyfriend. Now time has passed, I came here with my 24 years old daughter'... ...you see, I still miss your dad even I am on vacation, I wonder if he misses me."

My mum missed my dad indeed. Every now and then during the trip she mentioned about my dad. She said that he would definitely love coming to this place. Due to many constraints he could not however.

After finished packing I switched off the lights and was about to sleep. Suddenly my mum said "Hey I haven't told you the last sentence I wrote, you want to know?"

"I thought you finished telling me, what was it?"

"I wrote: 'I hope my daughter will come to this beautiful place with the person whom she loves in the future'. Goodnight"

Out of nowhere I felt tears running down to my cheeks.

Deal. We shall visit Macau again. Mum and dad, me and the person whom I love.

I have seen her pictures taken when she was young, the one I remember the most was the picture of her wearing a sari

the most captivating smile I have ever come across, I can imagine how many young chaps had fallen for that smile, my dad was one of them, obviously

When she was 24, she had got almost everything a young girl wished for, she had a job which she loved, she had the right man to start a family with, she had dreams and hope and passion...

now she is turning 50, the smile is still ever enchanting, and wrinkles at the corner of her eyes and lips make it sophisticated...she has got more than any women wishes for (if you know her, you know what I mean), but she still has not given up her dreams and hope and passion, which a lot of the women at this age have...

She is always beautiful, not only when she was 24 years old. Her beauty is defined by her courage to face challenges and hardship in life and her trust in the omnipotent God. She has taught me to be beautiful, she creates the legacy to be passed on to the generations to come.

It happened on last Sunday
I was walking in KLCC Isetan
I didn't wanna walk into it at first, but this Japanese fair had eventually attracted me, so I just thought of doing a quick window shopping and left.

So I was walking, looking around
I should reckon I looked quite lost, because I was later noticed by the promoter in kimono who had after that literally dragged me to the booth
I was quick enough to realize that was a cosmetic product booth before she started promoting the product fervently to me

"Miss do you use foundation?" it was her first question
"hmmm, ya..." "Well STOP using anymore, you know it is harmful to skin? It is all chemical, you know it makes your pores bigger?"

I was looking at her pores and blackheads on her nose and was contemplating whether should tell her to first not apply such heavy foundation
and the next second she was pointing at my nose

"Nah, you see, your pores so obvious!! It IS the effect of using foundation!!"

GOSH, she seemed to be happily stepping on my toes and ignoring the fact she ANNOYED me already with or without intention!!!

"and you know this later will cause pimples"
"I seldom have this problem" I told her
"haha, you would not know, it might appear one day on your face"

Hey, I was not bragging about my skin, I don't always have acne because I have dry skin!!

and she continued "well, our compact BB cream is very good. It is not only foundation, it has got treatment. Come try!" She was holding my hands and applying the product at the back of my hand with a rather 'not-so-clean' sponge

*sorry I was so irritated that's why I find all kinds of fault with her and her product*

and I actually tried to spot the name of the brand but could not see any, not even on the case of the compact BB cream...

"Is this a local brand?"
"Nope, from Korea but formulated in Japan"....hmm, no wonder they were wearing kimono (actually there were quite a number of them dragging every victim who walked pass the booth)

correct me if I am wrong, I always thought BB cream is known as Korean product (of course it is originated from Germany), then why does the product need to be formulated in Japan??

It will be much more convincing if they told it is from Germany.

"Oh, the normal price is RM 188, but now we are doing PROMOTION so it is RM 145?"

BB cream from Skin79 also is not that expensive oo...some more I really don't know what super brand this is...she didn't bother to tell me in the first place, and I also didn't bother to ask her...

She stopped. I knew she was annoyed. *HAHA*

Oh my dear, just stop convincing me this if you yourself don't know the product well. Don't expect me to splurge on this just because of the unknown 'treatment'

I shook my head (Note: I smiled) and left.

Bad bad experience.

Very unprofessional way of promoting.

1st, she commented negatively about my skin (ooii pantang loorrr, if wanna comment about my looks better don't do it in front of me)
2nd, she informed nothing about the brand (maybe I katak bawah tempurung, I have never heard about it, but it is the promoter's responsibility to inform the customers about the brand)
3rd, she failed to provide sufficient information about the product (she didn't tell what ingredients that are in the product which help to improve the skin, just kept saying 'treatment' only)
4th, she argued with the customer (I told her about my skin, she should just tell what other benefit I could gain besides reducing pimples instead of arguing with me!!)

maybe you would like to stop by at the booth and help me check what brand that is. I am really interested to know the brand that pays people to ruin its name.

I had a miserable weekend.

Saturday morning.
I was standing on my bed to clean the web on the wall, the next second I was falling down from the bed

I sprained my ankle

"Good gracious!!!How am I supposed to go for class!!!!"

Haiya, don't care, this small pain won't stop me from all these. So I get myself prepared and went for class (with bus and LRT, never noticed it could be that torturing when you have pain on your ankle)

In the class, I didn't understand a single thing discussed.
That was when I seriously felt like strangling myself.
Suddenly I felt water dripping on my hand
oh, I cried...

I was not sure it was because of the pain or the class, but I knew I had to leave.

"Sir, I have to go, I am not well" and the lecturer nodded, so I took a taxi to UM, as I had promised to pay a visit to the choir team before the competition.

I was siting on the chair feeling extremely useless watching the choir singing and could not give any comment

I was supposed to guide them or encourage them or at least motivate them (as a former choir member) especially at this crucial time

I was not asked to be there just to warm the chair.

and this stupid ankle was bothering me, it was swollen, looked like a pig's leg

Well I still got Meyi~ (Meyi thank you so so much leh!!!)

Reached clinic and waited for almost an hour, finally the doctor wanted to see me

I am all alright now since I can blog, at least my verbal ability is obviously not affected.

Got a book from Huei Miin (do pay her a visit, look for her at the sidebar)
a comic book by a famous Taiwanese cartoonist 朱德庸...
the most special thing about this gift is the messages written by the giver of the book
there is this particular story about the guy always being neglected and forgotten by his parents, teachers, wife, mistress, boss, friends, even his dog....and the message from the giver goes: being forgotten by others is better than being forgotten by ourselves (translation, the original one in Chinese sounds much nicer)

I laughed to myself bitterly when I read the message, because I know why she wrote this to me
She knows the fact that I was always not remembered by people

It is always hard for me to impress people who meet me for the first time...
they either:
1. remember my name (thanks to my mum for such a special name, or else people will have even harder time recalling me), don't remember my face
2. remember my face, but connect my face with a totally different person
3. don't remember me AT ALL

how do I know that???because I always remember people, and when I go up to them to greet them, they look at me one kind, and when I tell them where and when we met, they go like : 'I was there at that time but I really don't remember we met, you sure or not?'

I'm so so SURE, please!!!

Go dig your memory and search for me, I am just so sure I am still there, don't know at which corner only....but please don't deny my existence!!

People are so self-centered...and me too...but I always try my best to acknowledge the presence of every single person in my life, because I believe everyone is so important that God takes the trouble to create and love...

Thank God Valentine's Day falls on the 1st day of Chinese New Year, single ones like me can still celebrate it happily, and much focus is on Chinese New Year instead of Valentine's Day. People are busy with reunion, ang pow, mahjong, food...and can hardly think about chocolate and roses, wonder if it affects the business...

Just realized I wrote nothing about Christmas nor New Year...I still celebrate them, but I can't think of anything special to talk about them....

oooo no please don't start presuming I'm a boring person who does not enjoy any sort of celebration and always put up a long face to any occasion like that....

I have a lot of friends who are really sincerely cute and this girl particularly is an extreme. Her answer is always 'tiring' whenever I asked her about whatever celebration she had. Her birthday was tiring, her Christmas was tiring, her New Year was tiring too!! I guess my case in that sense is similar to hers.

I am just so so tired....that is the reason of me not paying attention to the good things happening around me....and of me not noticing anything special to talk them...

But I have got nothing to complain
...I had great time with friends and family
...I have my Christmas presents from my bosses
...I have presents for my dad and mum and Raee (sorry Ljuan and Jae, I will think of a way to repay)
...and for myself (Alice's Adventure in Wonderland is what I gave myself for Christmas, I am still a kid, gosh!!)
....I have my first Christmas Tree set up in my Ipoh home...(really the first one in my life)

hmmm...what else do I have....

ok enough for Christmas, so long time ago....now is for New Year...

hmm...I had premature countdown at the Curve (don't know any other more suitable word to describe the countdown, anyway I chickened out due to the crowd and the spray...terrified me to the core...)

.....had Sze's and JS' homecooked meals...(chi yum chi sek....hahahaha!!!that were the two most well prepared free lunch that I had to kick start my 2010 man!!)

.....had Sherlock Holmes in stead of Avatar...(conned by my sweet darling juniors to watch with them...)

of course when it is new year, new things come.

There are new hopes, new happiness, new worries, new troubles, new surprises and uncertainties, new expectations and unexpectations, new resolutions, new regrets (as results from the old year resolutions)...

anyway, New is Good!!!
and God is Good!!!

Me and Mr Darcy

The quote printed at the one of the few pages of the book Me and Mr Darcy has attracted me, and I ended up buying it and spending most of my last weekend reading it.

It talks about a 29-year-old single girl dreaming of meeting and dating with Mr Darcy of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice after having all the bad dates. The story is very simple and entertaining. Suitable to be read for fun. However the use of f letter word and s letter word is very frequent, which surprised me because I discovered the book under 'teenage novels' category in POPULAR...hmmm....

The book has once again reminded me of this ever-popular hero of Jane Austen, Mr Darcy whom has impressed me a lot when I first read Pride and Prejudice in my school days. I'd forgotten most part of the plot, but I can still remember how happy I was when Elizabeth has finally accepted Mr Darcy's second proposal. Mr Darcy himself is already the main attraction of the book. He is good-looking, noble, wealthy, 'complicated' and cool...he does not simply reveal his emotions to people, therefore he touches the hearts of million readers when he confessed his feelings towards Elizabeth (and got rejected for the first time...so kesian~)

I am not sure I am the only one realizing this, a lot of the heroes (especially the Japanese shows) have similar characteristics as Mr Darcy, like Shinichi Chiaki in Nodame Cantabile...(there are a lot more of them, just that this is the only drama/anime I could think of the exact name of at the moment). They are handsome, smart, rich, cold and the dream guy of every girl, and they always meet the right one whose personality is totally opposite of theirs to change them. So it is not difficult to see that the shadow of Mr Darcy is still with the perfect-date-hero even in among the asian.

Anyway there are a few fantastic sentences from Me and Mr Darcy which I think are so so true:

-Just imagine being in a world where men didn't steal your cab, cheat on you or have an addiction to Internet porn, but were chivalrous, devoted and honourable.

- Men these days don't stride. They shuffle and trail....hands slung low in their pockets, shoulders hunched, feet dragging.

- Jane Austen always made her heroines feisty. They stuck by their principles, went after what they wanted, were not afraid to admit when they were wrong. Not doing anything can be worse than doing the wrong thing.

- women might have embraced feminism, but they still adore a show of chivalry. So the next time you're tempted to bag that seat on the Tube, stand up and let the lady sit down- a few open doors, it seems, go a long way...

Meyi sent me an SMS when I was on the way back to uni to get my scroll on Monday saying that she had got something for me

She was having exam later and she had passed the 'something' to Yuki...her determination to give me the 'something' on that day itself was so strong that it had eventually generated a certain level of curiosity in me....

Would it be a letter from the hostel office saying that I still owe them fees? or worse still, a letter from the faculty saying I actually failed a paper and I had to extend my degree for another year??

went for training today and heard an extremely bizarre love story

There was a guy who had a wife and a girl friend at the same time. He and his girl friend were not working, and hence they faced lots of problems in life. In order to solve all the problems, the guy came out with a brilliant idea, which was to ask the girl friend to come to his apartment when his wife was away, and to jump down from the window of his apartment which was at 7th floor. So then he could claim from the girl's insurance company.

The girl did it, and died...all because of love...

There was a young guy who was paralyzed after an accident. His future was all destroyed in just a split of second. The worse was he had just met the right girl and began the relationship very recently. He told the girl to leave him and to look for a better guy who could promise her a future. The girl was stubborn. She didn't give up on the relationship and kept taking care of him. After a few years they got married. Now the guy owned his own business. He was even invited to give motivation speech to thousands of people...

that is love...

Love keeps no record of wrongs and always protects, always trusts, always hopes, and always preserves. (1 Corinthians 14:5 & 7). Love is indeed a powerful tool. It can either take away someone's life or give someone life.

Girls love to love and to be loved...that's why they always do amazing things (really 'amazing' things) for love...if any guy found the girl who loves him genuinely, he should appreciate her from the bottom of his heart, for the girl will trust him for life...

My colleague shared with me an experience that she would never forget...

because of work she was required to give briefing to the new joiners of the company...on that morning she did the setting up of the laptop and projector as usual after every new joiner was seated...she always did it on her own...and suddenly this guy who was one of the new joiners walked up to her and offered help to set up the equipments...after doing it for so many times, this was the first time someone volunteering to help...

...and she was touched...just by a simple offer...

A simple gesture can be so powerful that people might not take it seriously and don't even think of doing it...but the fact is that I am always touched by simple things and I think everyone is always touched by simple things...as long as they are genuine and sincere...

let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth (1 John 3:18)...I hope I have also touched others' hearts with a simple gesture and a simple effort, just like how the guy and those who had touched my heart deeply did...I always hope so....

Whenever I got back home the first thing I would usually ask my mum was 'did I grow fat?'
I am super conscious about my size, as I used to be a chubby kid, I would not want my weight to go higher...I just wanna stay lean...and of course healthy....

and I know that all the extra calories I take in will be so so effective on me...and I will see the weight scale go up and up the next second....

but when I saw this article, it changed a bit about my views towards size (and guys~)

- only 15% of guys preferred thin women
- 80% felt that women who were overweight were 'less bitchy' and 'more loving'

- 87.6% of ladies felt more protected by bigger man (I am not one of them for sure!!)

The first thing I do everyday in the morning is to sneeze and to wake people up with the noise I make from my blocked nose
and sinus has been my faithful friend ever since I have the ability to sneeze
running nose, nose block, teary eyes, sleepless nights, sleeping with mouth wide opened...there are the other good friends who come along with sinus...

I did not mind having all these with me, just that I had too much of inquiries and complaints...
'why your voice sound so bad?'
'why your eyes so red?'
'why your nose block so serious?'
'why you can't sleep with your mouth closed?'

especially now, whenever I need attention, I will just 'HA CHOOOO!!!', people around will stared...for more effect, I will rub my nose vigorously with tissue, and people will flea from me silently and quickly...

and more explanation need to be done
'not flu lar, sinus...'
'I am like that everyday, don't worry...'

but people are so caring and still asking me the FAQs (as above) that I MUST find a way to cure my sinus

that's why I bought this

cost me RM 40++...hope it works...

Great celebration

I had a really great celebration for my convocation
thanks to all the friends who came
and even those who are already working...they took leave just to be there enduring the heat and sweat for the event..
they might not be there for me personally, but I seriously appreciate their presence
without them, my convocation is not memorable at all...

my parents did not attend the ceremony (in stead they came after that), and I went out of the hall alone, feeling lost and unimportant...but it was all wrapped up nice and sweet having college people's cheering and wishes...I was thinking to myself that how blessed I was to be in 7th...

But it did not do me good after that, as it stirred my long hidden feelings again towards college...it was really a suffering process to say goodbye to the friends...and I really miss every single bit of college life, every single person I met, and every single second I spent for the past three years...

It was an occasion filled with mixture of emotions. I will keep all this in my heart, as long as forever, if it is possible...

A not-so-good day

today is not a really good day for me...
it all started in the morning when I looked in the mirror
oh gosh, what a dull girl!!!
my eyes were puffy (and did I tell you how I hate my small eyes sometimes?) and that was enough to make me look horrible
small matter small matter, I comforted myself, it's normal to look like that without makeup...then I started with the daily routine by applying cream and cream and cream on my face...and the best part was, I looked even more horrible...
but there was no time for me to fix it, so I just went off with that face...

because of that, I did not really enjoy the day
I did not feel like talking to people
I did not feel like smiling to people
I even avoided from looking into the mirror when I was in the washroom!!!

and then finally I realized something
I am really concerned about the way I look (ever since young)
even though I might appear to some people that I don't really care much about this, but inside me, I do, a lot...
so if people start teasing me of my appearance, I will be seriously offended

wish me good-look-day tomorrow onwards, even with the viruses and haze around and my 'mata sepet', I still wanna look bright and cheerful!!

It was Tuesday...I was in the LRT and there wasn't many people around in the morning...
the train stopped at a station and that was when I saw this really good-looking young man came walking in with roses on his hand to a young cute lady (who was already on the train) and gave her the roses...

...I guessed that was his girlfriend...that really attracted me because the culture was rarely practiced locally, so I paid 'extra attention' to their conversation....and I heard Korean (of course without understanding the content), and after a while, the girl rested her head on the young man's shoulder...

really just like watching drama...so fun to look at the young couple..so so sweet, and love was in the air...

I was in Kuching from 16th June to 21st June
had never thought it to be so exciting....
a very memorable trip....makes me yearning for the next vacation...

I went with 2 couples, Joo Shing + Jong (Sarawakian), Ryan + Carrie...haha...it sounded so so weird to me when I was first asked to join...

I kept receiving questions like 'Kuching don't have electricity ya?' 'people go meet parents you go there for what?' 'what are you gonna do there then?'...as if I was not supposed to go with them...

*sweat*

but thanks to all of them, I had a really great trip...especially Mr. Jong and family...they are really warm and nice people...treat us so well, gonna miss them...

Tanjung Sepat

4.00 am, woke up not because I wanted to, but my mum...I was literally dragging my body away from bed...arrggghh...

ya...8th June was the day my mum booked me for a trip to Tanjung Sepat...didn't know the existence of it...

reached my mum's school at 5 something...(actually it was a trip for the teachers, I got to tumpang because of my mum, hehe)...got up to the bus...and slept...

when I was fully awake, we reached the 1st station, Red Dragon Fruit Farm...

besides dragon fruit, taukei also planted others, one of them was the tree that the taukei is showing...it's called 'magical fruit' because of its function to change the taste of certain food...taukei said if we eat the fruit, we'll taste everything sweet within an hour...even spicy food...should introduce to hostel canteen makcik...

I like looking at those mountains...can even see the trees on them if the weather is good...
they always remind me of Psalm 121...

"I lift up my eyes to the hills
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth." (Psalm 121 : 1-2, NIV)

How wonderful to look at the sky...

but it has changed its look recently

look at the hills

they can't really be seen clearly...
the sky turns hazy
and weather gets hotter and hotter

why??

tak kan the sky will change just like the politics??
